Just clicked on the pause button of this website, http://wcbstv.com/entertainment/local_story_012114244.html which features an hour-long interview with the master comedian, the so-called comedian’s comedian, the inimitable Mr. (maestro, drumrolls please) Larry David, whose blog, by the way can be visited by clicking on one of the links at the right hand side of this page.
I learned a few days back that Curb Your Enthusiasm, one of the shows that he conceptualized and wrote for (besides Seinfeld), was already being shown in Manila. Go HBO! I’ve been waiting for this for two years.
When my wife and I came back from the US in 2004, I knew that I would miss CYE. Fortunately, my fond memories of this TV show was kept alive by a four-season set of CYE DVDs which I bought from a dealer in Shaw Boulevard.
Currently thinking of updating my blog every so often but work, as it happens, always gets in the way. Which reminds me of what someone said about nurturing dreams: “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”
Currently reading “Story Collection” by Gilda Cordero-Fernando. While some of her idioms may be awkward — she writes let down from a bus, instead of let off — she remains one of the most perceptive Filipino writers. You should see the state of RP journalism: it’s far worse. Besides news being badly-written, some editorials are really ignorant and have no sense of prose style. Just goes to show you how many so-called journalists read — as in books, my friend. Very fucking few. Fortunately, I’m not included in that category. I’m no journalist. I’m a fucking bum; a bum forced by circumstances to beat deadlines for a fucking living.
Speaking of reading, before I picked up GCF’s book, I finished Jonathan Lethem’s Gun, with Occasional Music. It’s a good, fast read, about a detective in the future, who like other people are users of drugs such as Forgettol, etc.
Anyway, on to the Larry David interview and on to my life — such as it is. Hope I get to finish my fiction, about, as it happens, a Filipino detective.
